Every AI will do your students' homework. This one refuses.

Socratic tutors by asking questions, one at a time. It will not state the answer — not as a hint, not for begging, not for anyone.

One problem, two routes. Only one of them ends with a student who can do it again on Friday.

01 · Try it

Try to get the answer out of it.

Four real attacks from our test suite. Pick one — the reply you get is the recorded production response, character for character.

Recorded session · Algebra · Solve x² + 2x − 15 = 0 · Progress 60%

Responses recorded verbatim from the production tutor. The guards are deterministic, so a live attempt gets the same wall. Across 153 adversarial checks — begging, injection, impersonation, live exams — it gave the answer 0 times.

Why three of those replies are identical: the pattern guard is ordinary server code that runs before the model is ever called. There is no prompt in that path to argue with.

02 · The problem

Schools were handed a bad choice.

Ban it, and students use it anyway on their phones — with the one tool that does the thinking for them.

Allow it, and homework stops meaning anything, because nobody can tell whose thinking it measures.

Socratic is the third option: an AI that is structurally incapable of doing the work.

03 · Mechanism

Questions, not answers.

01

The student brings a problem

Maths, science, writing, logic. They paste it in or pick one their teacher assigned.

02

Socratic asks, never tells

One guiding question at a time, with a hint ladder when they are genuinely stuck, and a warm refusal when they are not.

03

The teacher sees the thinking

Which misconception surfaced, how deep the hints went, and whether the student tried to shortcut it.

Each rung narrows the question. None of them contains the answer — the ladder stops short of that line by construction, not by policy.

Hint depth per session, falling over time as students need less scaffolding.

Integrity, not surveillance

You see that a student asked for the answer and kept working anyway. You do not see their private conversation.

05 · For students

It will not do it for you.

That is the point

You will finish the problem yourself, which is the only version that helps on Friday.

You get the credit

Every session ends with what you worked out, in your words.
